How to clean an ice maker

Unplug it, drain it, wipe the basket, run a cleaning cycle with the cleaner your manual names, then rinse with two or three cycles of clean water. Most countertop machines take about 30 minutes.

Countertop and portable machines

  1. Unplug the machine, take out the basket and drain the tank through the drain plug.
  2. Wipe the inside, the basket and the scoop with a soft cloth and warm water.
  3. Fill the tank with the cleaner or the vinegar or lemon mix your manual names.
  4. Run the cleaning cycle, or two ice cycles, and throw that ice away.
  5. Drain, refill with clean water and run two or three cycles. Throw that ice away too.
  6. Leave the lid open to dry if you store it.

Nugget machines

  1. Empty the bin and the side tank, if it has one.
  2. Start the descaling or cleaning mode with the maker's solution.
  3. Rinse with clean water as the cycle asks, then wash the bin.
  4. Replace the water filter when the maker says.

Undercounter machines

  1. Turn the machine to clean mode, or off, and empty the bin.
  2. Add the nickel-safe cleaner the manual names and let the cycle run.
  3. Sanitize the bin and the inside walls, then rinse.
  4. Vacuum the front grille so the condenser can breathe.
  5. Change the water filter if one is fitted.

Pink slime or black spots?

That is mold or bacteria. Clean and sanitize the whole machine, throw away all ice, and from then on drain it when you will not use it for a day or two.
